My Review

My fourth holiday read was Catherine Ryan Howard’s debut thriller Distress Signals. Having already enjoyed 56 Days, Run Time, and The Trap, I was eager to dive into this one.

In the story, Adam’s girlfriend, Sarah, doesn’t return home from her work trip. Days later, he receives her passport in the post, accompanied by a brief, apologetic note. This unsettling discovery sends him on a frantic search for her, ultimately leading him to the Celebrate cruise ship…

I absolutely loved this one. It’s a gripping thriller that keeps you on your toes with its twists while also offering a glimpse into the dark, behind-the-scenes workings of a cruise ship—think Below Deck but much darker. The intriguing set-up involving maritime law conventions and restrictions adds another layer of tension.

Plus, I had the pleasure of reading it in some stunning Italian locations! Here’s a photo of me reading in the pop top, admiring the view at Antholz-Mittertal.
