My Review

I’ve seen so many good things about this one! Emma Reads Crime really praised the audiobook [read here review here], which I originally intended to go for. However, I started reading it during a cosy early morning wake-up, when it was easier to reach for my Kobo and read in the dark! I’ll admit I was a bit apprehensive about the humour, as my own sense is quite different. But it turns out I share the same dark sense of humour as crime writers! As soon as I opened the first page, read the opening line, and encountered the bit about the apology chicken – I was hooked!

Listen for the Lie introduces us to Lucy, who’s living in LA when her life is suddenly upended by the launch of a true crime podcast, revealing her secret to her new boyfriend and colleagues. Five years ago, Lucy was found wandering the woods, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, with no memory of what happened that night.

Enter podcaster Ben. With fresh eyes and renewed scrutiny on the case, alibis start to crumble, and new secrets come to light. Will Lucy uncover any hidden memories? Is she responsible for her best friend’s murder, or will Ben uncover even more?

I loved the podcast elements and the dark humour in this. Lucy is so well written!
