Earlier this year during the Janice Hallet and Louise Swanson talk [more here], I met Yorkshire Reads creator Beth and fellow members Emma and Mandy. It was great to meet them and today marked my first full proper meet up!
Yorkshire Reads was founded in 2024 by Beth, and had their first meet up in August. They meet monthly at different locations around Yorkshire. For the December/Christmas meet up, the location was set as Leeds.
We started with a walk around the Christmas markets and a photo scavenger hunt, followed by a trip to Waterstones (I picked up a copy of The Virgin Suicides). Then it was dinner at Franco Manca, where we did a wrapped book swap – such a fun idea! I unwrapped a copy of Kala. I was also gifted a super cute bookish bauble, some (book)worms and stickers.
Beth did an amazing job bringing everyone together. I never expected to meet so many wonderful people when I started my bookstagram account. Meeting people as an adult can be so much harder, so finding a community like this is such an absolute bonus 💖
