This weekend was another fantastic Yorkshire Reads meet! We were joined by internationally best selling author, Tess Gerritsen, who is well known for her Rizzoli & Isles Series. She has written over 30 books to date! Her latest being The Summer Guests, the second entry into The Martini Club series, which published on the 27th March 2025. I am reading this now and enjoying it so far! Watch this space for my full review.
It was absolutely lovely to spend time with Tess and her wonderful publicist Alison. Tess told us all about the inspiration behind The Martini Club series. After relocating to a small town in Maine, Tess realised it was home to lots of retired CIA employees! How fascinating that must be. It must feel a very safe community to be in. Though if you get the feeling that your neighbours are curtain-twitching, then it’s probably because they 100% are!
It was really good to hear this as to be honest, I wouldn’t usually pick up spy fiction. Simply because I assume it’s not for me. However, Tess’ writing is wonderful. I love the concept of how much do you really know someone? As well as what older people may have done in their lives!
Tess was super engaging and friendly. The whole group absolutely loved meeting her. We had lunch, martinis (of course!) and got our books signed. Thank you so much to Alison at Penguin and Beth at Yorkshire Reads for organising.
After the event we headed out into Sheffield for our usual Yorkshire Reads activity of book shop hunting! We found the lovely independent Juno Books, where I picked up Calls May be Recorded for Training and Monitoring Purposes and In The Blink of an Eye. I have seen a few people post Calls May be… and when I opened and read the first line, I knew I had to have it!
We also headed to Waterstones for a browse and then it was time to head home! Such a lovely, wholesome day as always. Beth has done such a fantastic job of bringing us all together. It’s so much harder to make friends as an adult that are not through work etc. so it has been great to connect with people we already all have a common interest in.

Disclaimer: I received a proof copy of the book, goodie tote bag and dinner with thanks to Bantam. There was no expectation for anything in return. Just including for transparency!
