Today marked yet another fab Yorkshire Reads meet up! This one was the easiest ever for me to attend as it took place where I live in Harrogate! As it was so close, this time I took my dog, Daisy, along. We met outside the Victoria Shopping Centre, where there happened to be the Harrogate Dog Show taking place. I was asked a couple of questions about Daisy whilst there and she was given a couple of treats!
Once everyone arrived at the meeting spot, I lead the tour this time being local! Our first stop was second-hand bookshop Books For All. This has multiple floors and a big selection. If you are ever in the area then absolutely make sure to swing by The Cheeseboard on your way there!
Next it was time for The Works. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that dogs are allowed in here, so Daisy went into her first bookshop of the day! After that we passed by Oxfam Books and then the independently owned Imagined Things. Here I picked up a gorgeous signed, spredges copy of Kelly Mullen’s This is Not A Game. I actually won 2 proof copies from Century for myself and a senior reader relative/friend! So it’s good to support and pick up a finished copy too.
After all that shopping it was time for a food interlude. We headed to Farmhouse, which did a fantastic job of getting everyone’s pre-ordered food out quickly and handled our group of 18 people (and 1 dog!) very well. Daisy got some doggie sausages and then had a well deserved nap under the table!
Next was time for one final bookshop visit to Waterstones. Again, Waterstones was dog friendly so Daisy headed into her second bookshop of the day. We also snuck across the road to pet shop Paw Prints to get her some treats for being so good all day.
Finally, Yorkshire Reads creator Beth had brought along some scratch art bookmarks for us all to make so we found a spot to settle into on the Stray and all made our own cute bookmarks to commemorate the day!
