After attending a Transworld panel dinner during the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate this July, I was thrilled to be invited to a dedicated author talk for Rebecca Philipson’s debut novel, How to Get Away with Murder.
I’d been lucky enough to receive a proof copy at the festival, so I’d already had the chance to read and review the book [review here]. So I hopped on the train to York, proof in hand, eager to hear more about the inspiration behind the story and how it came to be.
This was Becca’s first dedicated event for the book, and it was fascinating to hear her speak about her debut and the writing process behind it. The discussion covered a range of topics, including our collective consumption of true crime, the importance of keeping the victims at the heart of these stories, the impact of lockdown and even some particularly strange-sounding crime exhibitions!
It was also a lovely opportunity to catch up with so many fellow book bloggers from the area over a glass of wine, or two!
Thank you very much to Alison at Transworld for the invite.
How to Get Away with Murder is out on the 26th February 2026 and is available to pre-order now. I have included some more information about the book below and please don’t forget to check out my review here.
Denver Brady claims to be the most successful serial killer of our time – and that’s precisely why you’ve never heard of him.
But with the publication of his manual for aspiring serial killers, How to Get Away With Murder, that’s about to change.
When a copy is found at the home of a girl who was tragically murdered, DI Samantha Hansen is given the job of tracking down the elusive author.
As Denver and Sam’s stories unfold and converge, it becomes clear that there’s more to both than meets the eye. And once Denver’s book goes viral, the pressure to find and bring him to justice brings Sam close to breaking point.
But who is hunting whom?
