My Review
My first read of the year was a buddy read set up by the fab @rachel_loves_to_read on Instagram and what a way to start!
The concept here is one that most people can instantly imagine the horror of if it ever played out. In fact, the acknowledgements mention that the initial incident did actually happen to Mara as a child, though thankfully not in quite the same way!
Aaron is visiting London to catch up with his old housemates, bringing his wife Sive and their three children along. When Sive is travelling to meet one of them on the tube, she’s momentarily distracted and tells her two girls to run ahead while she follows with the pram. To her horror, the train pulls away without her… and at the next stop, only one of the girls gets off.
The book switches timelines between the days leading up to the tube incident, 15 years earlier and the aftermath of six-year-old Faye’s disappearance. I found myself constantly changing my mind about which timeline I was most invested in. They’re all good and it’s satisfying when it all comes together. There are a lot of threads to keep track of, so while you might guess some of what’s coming, there are still plenty of surprises, drama and secrets along the way!
No One Saw a Thing is an emotional thriller that really leans into every parent’s worst nightmare.
