My Review

A wonderful debut. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one, as it’s touted as a romance as much as it is a mystery. But it had some glowing reviews from early readers and I was lucky enough to have received an early proof at Theakston’s Crime, so in I went. This is a hard one to review without giving too much away and it’s probably best to go in blind. It’s slow-paced but builds intrigue and holds your interest.

They’re about to undergo a big deal and have built up quite the support team around them. They’re big enough to have fans including ones who may be a little too fanatical…Benny arrives at Joy’s home, which she shares with her husband, to find broken glass and the couple missing. The narrative unfolds mostly from Benny’s perspective, treating the disappearance as day zero. The events thereafter are then interspersed with entries from a memoir that Joy has been writing, which may shine a light on what happened. Is her disappearance the result of a kidnapping, or worse… could she have been murdered?

I don’t read romance and I’m not one for any spice in my fiction, the only place I want to find it is in my food! However, I must admit there’s a relationship in here that even I did warm to!

Thanks to Hodder for the proof.
