My Review
This is the tenth novel from thriller favourite T.M. Logan and this one felt particularly close to home, literally!
Set in the Yorkshire Dales over New Year, we follow three couples escaping to the countryside for a cosy break. Think winter hikes, board games and trips to dog-friendly pubs with roaring fires and cosy carpets. As a proud Northerner, I absolutely loved the familiarity of the local mentions: York, Harrogate, Hawes and Nidderdale etc.
During a hike they take shelter from a storm in a cave and stumble upon a backpack full of cash. £1.6 million to be precise. But who’s counting? The group actually, multiple times!
This discovery shines a light on the seemingly normal couples, exposing cracks in their relationships and highlighting their individual flaws and vices.
I really enjoyed the way Logan handled the shifting dynamics and escalating tension. Seeing these ordinary people justify increasingly questionable decisions, manage their greed and loyalty was compelling. As with the other books I have read by Logan, there’s always been a character I have felt I could root for, but this group was messy and it felt like a bit of a guilty pleasure watching it fall apart!
Thank you Zaffre for the book and for including me as part of TM10.
