My Review

2025 really is delivering some strong debuts, eh?

No Safe Place unfolds mostly over the course of a few intense days. A psychologist is found stabbed and left for dead. Next to his body lies a bloodstained page from one of his studies. See, fifteen years earlier, David, the psychologist, conducted a study into OCD. Five vulnerable teenagers took part, their identities anonymised in the paper.

As DCI Field and her team investigate David’s stabbing, it’s not long before they’re called out to another one. The new victim is soon identified and linked back to David’s study.

This is a great thriller that leans into the police procedural side of things. It took me a little while to find my rhythm with it, as it’s been a while since I’ve read one, but once I was in, I was all in. By the end, you learn in the Author’s Note that Brennan herself suffered from OCD as a teenager, which shows in how sensitively the characters are handled.

I absolutely adored the clever twist in No Safe Place. It was genuinely a bit gut-wrenching to realise why!

Thank you to Random Things Tours and Avon Books for sending me a gifted ebook in order to take part in the tour.
