My Review
Eddie Flynn and his team are back in the ninth instalment of one of my favourite series. This time they are taking on the case of Tikky Tokker (as Harry would say) Elly Parker. Elly has millions of followers thanks to her random acts of kindness videos, and when she accidentally captures a shocking betrayal on camera, her account goes even more viral than ever.
Down on her luck but still desperate to help others, Elly can’t resist the pull of aiding another stranger. But this time, her kindness lands her in a dangerous predicament and in need of Eddie’s help. The opening of this book is fantastic: you really feel for Elly and the tension keeps you on a knife edge as events spiral. See, the stranger she helps isn’t so helpless after all. It’s an act put on by a skilled killer, Logan. He’s one of those brilliantly written villains you love to hate, his chapters were some of my favourites.
While Elly and Logan’s story unfolds, there’s also a subplot that hits much closer to home for Eddie. Fans of the series will enjoy the extra layers of character development here, but if you’re new to Eddie Flynn and co., don’t worry as Two Kinds of a Stranger works as a standalone too. The characters, setup and dynamics are well explained, though I’d still highly recommend diving into the earlier books.
The ending was superb, rounding off another excellent addition to the series.
