My Review

If you have enjoyed any of Feeney’s previous novels, or even the Netflix adaptation of His & Hers, you will be pleased to know that the queen of twists has done it again. You’ve probably already seen plenty of glowing reviews for this book. I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to believe the hype. This is an absolutely fantastic, well crafted thriller that will not disappoint.

Eden returns home from a run to the coastal house she recently moved into with her husband, only to find her key doesn’t fit. When the door finally opens, the woman standing there looks eerily like her. In fact, she claims to be Eden. That this house, this husband, they both belong to her.

We also meet Birdy, who six months earlier inherited the very same house. We also learn that Birdy has an invitation from a company that claims it can predict a person’s “death day” including her own.

So how do these stories connect? And will the real Eden Fox please stand up?

What I loved about this book was the incredibly short chapters, some just a couple of pages long. Each new chapter would usually signal a change in narrator too. This works really well for a couple of reasons. The first being I found it kept everything fresh and meant I always wanted to read just one more chapter. Then another.

Another plus for me with having multiple narrators is that it really allows us to get to know them more, to get inside their head and see how they think. Sharing their secret thoughts with us, the reader, rather than just what they say aloud or how they present themselves to the outside world. We learn so much more about the characters that way.

There are so many layers to My Husband’s Wife and Feeney scatters breadcrumbs throughout, but good luck piecing it all together before she wants you to!

One of those rare books that, as soon as you finish it, you want to go straight back to the beginning.

Thank you to Book Break and Pan Macmillan for the proof copy.
